Eric Dickerson was born on September 2, 1960 in Sealy, Texas. Not only did Dickerson have a great career in the NFL, but he also dominated at every other level of football as well. It is safe to say that Dickerson is one of the greatest running backs of all time, and that this is not going to change anytime in the near future. From early on in his life it was obvious that he had all the skills to take his game to the top.
After high school Dickerson decided to take his game to Southern Methodist University in the state of Texas. During his time in college Dickerson formed half of the famed “Pony Express.” All of the attention that he received in college did him good, and in the 1983 NFL Draft he was selected with the second pick in the first round by the Los Angeles Rams.
Dickerson did not waste anytime taking over the league. As a rookie he carried the ball 390 times for 1,808 yards. On top of this he added 18 touchdowns. This great performance led to many awards including All Pro, a spot on the Pro Bowl team, Rookie of the Year, and Player of the Year among others.
In his second season with the Rams he continued to put up huge numbers. This included 2,105 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Dickerson played for four teams in his NFL career. After leaving the Rams he played for the Indianapolis Colts, Los Angeles Raiders, and Atlanta Falcons.
Dickerson finished his NFL career with some of the best running back statistics of all time. He played in 146 games, had 2,996 carries, 13,259 yards, and 90 touchdowns. These numbers make Eric Dickerson one of the greatest players to ever play college and professional football.
